My Trading Journey
Hi, I'm Ganesh Mishra, and I want to share my trading journey—one filled with mistakes, lessons, and growth. Like many beginners, I started with big dreams, thinking trading was the quickest way to make money. But reality hit me hard, and it took years of struggle before I finally understood how this game actually works.
The Beginning
I graduated from Mumbai University in 2002 and started a business. Things were going well, but in 2008, the global recession changed everything. My business suffered heavy losses, and I needed a way to recover financially. That's when I first heard about trading. It seemed like a perfect opportunity—just buy and sell, and the money starts rolling in. At least, that's what I thought.
First Trading Steps
Excited, I opened my Demat and trading account in 2008. By 2009, I was trading silver. Why silver? Because it was highly volatile, and I believed higher volatility meant higher profits. I was impatient and wanted to make money fast, so I jumped into the most unpredictable market. That was my first big mistake. The wild price swings wiped out my capital faster than I had imagined. I then shifted to commodities like zinc and lead, hoping they would be easier. But the result was the same—more losses, more frustration.
The Hard Lessons
In 2010, I moved to Futures and Options (F&O), thinking this was where the real money was. I placed my first Nifty Futures trade with complete confidence. The trade went against me, but instead of accepting the loss, I decided to average my position, convinced the market would reverse. It didn't. The more I added, the deeper I sank. By the end of the day, I had lost ₹1.3 lakh in a single trade. That was the moment I realized I had no idea what I was doing.
The Search for Knowledge
Between 2010 and 2015, I tried everything to improve. I took online courses, attended offline seminars, and spent over ₹10 lakh on education. But every time I thought I had found the "secret" to success, the market proved me wrong. I started wondering if anyone actually made money in trading. Was it even possible? But despite all the setbacks, I couldn't let go. Something about trading fascinated me, and I was determined to figure it out.
The Turning Point
In 2017, things finally started to change. I met a mentor who completely shifted my perspective. He taught me the importance of risk management, discipline, and strategy. I learned how options trading works, how volatility affects the market, and why blindly following tips or gut feelings never works. It took time, but by 2018, I started making consistent profits.
Where I Am Today
Today, I manage a portfolio worth in crores, and I lead a team of traders who are also doing well. Trading is no longer just about making money for me—it's something I truly love. If you're struggling in trading, I've been there. I know how frustrating it is to see your money disappear trade after trade. But the truth is, there's no shortcut. If you want to succeed, you need to focus on learning the right skills, managing risk, and having patience. Quick profits might seem tempting, but they rarely last. The real success in trading comes when you treat it like a business, not a rich quick scheme.
